Facebook fan page

If you're following our Facebook fan page, my apologies! I fell behind schedule with my articles and have clogged up our newsfeed with information about storage and flooring. We'll be back to our normal schedule come August. Obviously I could have spaced these articles out through July since I know they're due at the end of the month, but for some reason, I chose to procrastinate. I will do my best not to let that happen again! If you're interested in seeing the articles that I've posted in our newsfeed, you can find them by following the links below. Maybe one of you can remind me (politely) to stay on schedule! Kidding, I've made notes in my calendar.

Getting your garage organized

We've recently started writing for about.com, all things garage related can be found there, not just written by us but multiple experts from across the USA who have been in this industry for years. We'll of course continue to write here about recent projects that we've taken on.

On that note, we'd like to keep you updated on what's been going on in our little world, right now and for the past week, Jeff has been in the shop working on a twin garage project. Two identical garages on the same property being built at the same time. He'll be adding cabinets, flooring, and a little slatwall to each for some beautiful function. Can't wait to see the finished project and share photos!

Garage Makeover | Mason, OH

Looks like our poor blog has been neglected once again. I keep our Facebook page updated, but sometimes fall short here, so if you're looking for new information or just like to keep up with what we've been up to, go like our page so we'll come up in your newsfeed. Here's the link The Garage Guy's Facebook page.

We recently completed a garage in Mason, Ohio that I wanted to share. Their floor had previously been coated by a local professional floor coating company (not sure who, since it wasn't our guys over at ASE Floors), but it looked and felt like a similar product. In case you didn't know, our guys use commercial grade coating products that are made to last and are extremely durable. If you're considering coating your floor, please do some research (or shoot us an email) and save yourself some headaches down the road. We've seen some real issues come up with garage floors that are expensive to repair after consumer grade product failed. Either because it wasn't installed properly or the product itself just wasn't worth the time, effort, or money.

Starting the project we had a brown/tan colored floor with white walls, overall a great canvas which made color choices relatively easy. The homowners chose to go with bright blue walls, our standard white cabinets with the upgraded extruded handles, white slatwall, and gray trim on the cabinets and slatwall. I'm not sure why white slatwall isn't more popular because it looks so clean and contemporary, but gray or tan are the more popular colors with most of our clients. They also chose to add a few extras in their cabinet system. Jeff built ball storage into the bottom of one of the large cabinets, a set of drawers (with his divider system in each of the drawers), and finally capped the system with some gray top caps and baseboard. A nice, clean, contemporary look.

If you have any questions or want more information about any of our products, please feel free to give me a call at 859-240-2714 or send me an email shannon@thegarageguy.com.

Recycling Bins | All things organized

Since we're in the business of organizing garages and keeping things organized, one of the most common household items we make space for is recycling bins. They're bulky, a little messy, and they need to be easily accessible. Almost every garage we look at, we have work recycling bins into the plans and make them look good or hide them all together. So of course I'm always looking for new ways to keep them out of the way and easy to get to, so I thought I'd share a few of my favorites.

New year, new plans

Who else has spring fever??? I certainly do! We're ready to get this year started with something exciting (for us at least)! We're in the planning stages of the biggest project of our lives, building a new home...a first for us. We've done the renovation thing, starting with Jeff completely renovating a 100-year-old house while we were in our early 20's, followed by a fire damaged 50-year-old house, then a (thankfully) simple 80's ranch, and now we're ready start fresh and build something that will accommodate our current lives... busy parents & business owners.

That's where the crucial planning process comes in. I am married to the Garage Guy after all, so of course our plans include an over-sized 3-car garage with tons of storage and style. I'm not sure that Jeff would be able to sleep at night if we didn't have the coolest, most organized, and functional garage in town. I'm just staying out of his way and letting him have this one. I can't argue with a guy that knows garages like he does, he's been doing this for so long that I'd be trying to recreate the wheel with any input I'd have to offer. I'll just be happy to have a clean, organized space to park my car and mower!

On that note, we spent our morning meeting with an architect going over the design with a fine tooth comb, making changes, and perfecting the simple yet functional layout we have in mind. I can't wait to share the plans and progress with everyone as the year goes on. Until then, let's start getting our homes, garages, laundry rooms, sheds, etc. ready to be organized.

If you've got an idea and would like us to come out, measure your space, create a dimensional drawing, give us a call! We'd love to see what you have in mind and create a plan! We're currently booked through February, but would love to get a plan in place for your organization project and get you on the calendar this spring.

Looking forward to working with you on your upcoming garage project!

Garage Fitness & Storage

We're coming close to the end of January and hoping everyone is keeping their New Year's Resolutions intact. Sometimes time restrictions or family obligations stop us from getting to the gym...after we've committed to squeezing a workout in.  That's why you should have a back up plan.

Even if you have space restrictions (as most of us do), or maybe you don't want a gym membership because it's not convenient, or maybe you just prefer to workout in the comfort of your own home. Whatever the case, you should be able to get a good workout in at home and still keep your house looking organized with just a few pieces of equipment and some minor storage adjustments. Just having equipment at home and easily accessible will make getting a workout in anytime that much easier.

I've dug up some fun storage ideas and put some pictures together to at least get some ideas flowing. We'd love to turn a portion of your home into a fun and functional fitness space! If you'd like us to come out and check out your space to get a plan together for you, just give me a call 859.240.2714 or send an email shannon@thegarageguy.com.

Garage Renovation | Maineville, OH

Jeff and his team installed 21 sets of cabinets, painted the walls a bright & vibrant blue, installed a RaceDeck tile floor, and accented the walls with some gray slatwall as well as some stainless steel trim and countertops. The homeowners are still organizing their belongings and adding a few finishing touches with the decor, but it's still beautiful.
